Description
Nitrous oxide is colorless and has a sweet odor and taste. It is nonflammable
and nontoxic, but is an oxidizer and supports combustion. At higher
temperatures it decomposes into nitrogen and oxygen. Nitrous oxide
is soluble in water, alcohol and oils.
Uses
Nitrous oxide is most commonly used for anesthesia and analgesia. It
is also used for cryosurgery, manufacturing of chemicals and semiconductors,
and as a fuel oxidant in racing cars.
