Chemical Symbol: SF6
Description
Sulfur hexafluoride is colorless, odorless, nontoxic, nonflammable
and is one of the most inert gases. It has a high dielectric strength
and is used as an insulating gas in electrical equipment. Sulfur hexafluoride
is slightly soluble in water and oil.
Uses
Sulfur hexafluoride is commonly used in electrical equipment, such
as switchgears, transformers, condensers and circuit breakers. Other
uses are blanketing of molten magnesium leak detection and plasma etching
in the semiconductor industry, as well as some medical uses.
